Following the success of the Wild Atlantic Way, Ireland’s Ancient East is a primary focus for Fáilte Ireland which has distinct alliance with Enniscorthy and its historical significance. One of the key elements of Ireland’s Ancient East, is the emphasis they place on story telling which suits the Enniscorthy Landscape well, particularly Vinegar Hill, Enniscorthy Castle and the 1916 scene.

Ireland’s Ancient East are keen acknowledgers that food now plays a vital role in the Tourism industry. The Enniscorthy Rockin’ Food Festival Committee with the aid of the Wexford Food Champion, have come up with a series of events and activities that highlight the Ancient East importance of not only the festival, but also Enniscorthy town.

The 1798 Battle Re-enactment, Rebel Living Histories Camp, Children’s Ireland’s Ancient East Storytelling and 1798 Pike Parade all showcase and tell the story of the lives of those who lived and battled in years gone by.

Also, collaborating the Food and Ireland’s Ancient East elements of Enniscorthy, the Rockin’ Food Festival Committee have come together with the local producers and eateries to develop an Ireland’s Ancient East themed food trail, “Slaney Valley Eats”, highlighting the local food products available in the town. In addition to this, during the Rockin’ Food Festival, a series of local producers will demonstrate and tell stories of their locally sourced and produced products as well as a visit from Failte Ireland Food Tourism speaker Sinead Hennessy who will be accompanied by other Fáilte Ireland Food Champions.
